Dog grooming

Yes. We require all dogs in our facility to have received their vaccinations (DHPP, Bordetella, Rabies). You should always allow a 2 week window past their vaccinations before exposing them to any sort of group environment.

All dogs over six months of age must be fully vaccinated. Vaccine information can be uploaded to your Gingr account, emailed to info@bracebridgebarkhouse.com, or brought into the facility.

The grooming frequency for your dog relies on its breed, coat type, and the level of maintenance you perform at home. Long-coated or double coated dogs may require daily brushing and more frequent grooming, while most dogs typically follow a schedule 6-8 weeks between appointments. Short-coated dogs, on the other hand, benefit from grooming every 8-10 weeks, with monthly nail/ear/dental care in between. Our groomer is ready to evaluate your dog's grooming requirements and create a personalized care plan based on its needs and lifestyle.

Pets with severely matted coats require extra attention. Mats in a pet's coat grow tight and can ultimately damage and tear the pet's skin, providing a breeding ground for parasite infestations. Our groomer will not cause serious or undue stress to your pet by de-matting. Mats can be very difficult to remove and may require the pet to be shaved. Removing a heavily matted coat can cause nicks, cuts, or abrasions due to skin growths trapped in the mats. After-effects of mat removal procedures can include itchiness, skin redness, self-inflicted irritations or abrasions, and failure of the hair to grow. In some cases, pets may also exhibit brief behavioral changes. Prevention is the best defense by scheduling regular grooming appointments every 6-8 weeks. There will be an additional charge for this process as it is time-consuming and causes extra wear and tear on grooming equipment.

A puppy’s first grooming experience is very important, and we want it to be a positive one! Our puppy groom introduces them gently to the process, things like the space, brushing, bathing, drying, nail trimming, and light scissoring if needed, without using clippers. Skipping clippers at this stage helps prevent fear or negative associations that could make future grooms stressful. Once your puppy is comfortable with the basics, we’ll be able to move on to full grooms with confidence and ease.
